Hi

a good friend of mine will be attending the James Joyce Bloomsday festival next week. I’m hoping a knowledgeable person that’s familiar with this festival could provide some guidance on maximizing his experience and not regretting seeing something he was unaware of.  My friend is an English teacher and is familiar with James Joyce. Is there a map signifying important landmarks, are there lectures that are better than others and are their escorted tours.

Thank you

Hi Anna,

It is great to hear your friend will be attending the James Joyce Bloomsday Festival next week.

The official website for the festival is jam packed with information, and the organizers encourage attendees to reach out via the contact page if they have any questions or are seeking advice/guidance. We also have a lot of existing threads on our community regarding both James Joyce, and the festival itself which are well worth checking out.

I hope this helps let us know if you have more questions. 😊

Hey Anna!

Sounds like your friend is familiar with Joyce's work and it's great that he'll be in Dublin on June 16! I bet he even read Ulysses in its entirety.

I haven't had the chance to attend the celebrations myself but, as Cathaoir said, a few people previously shared tips about the Bloomsday festival.

There are indeed traditional spots that host performances and readings every year, such as the Glasnevin Cemetery, Davy Byrne’s pub as well as James Joyce Tower and Museum in Sandycove. You can find a map on the festival's website to make sure your friend doesn't miss anything.

Happy Bloomsday to him and let us know if he needs any other suggestions for literary attractions in Dublin.

Antoine
