I’m visiting Ireland between the 10th and 18th September. Based at Sligo and Westport, but happy to travel. We’d love to see some live sport but can’t find anything when I google. Can anyone recommend something please?

Hi Judith,

It's great to hear about your upcoming trip! 🤩

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any sporting events in your area for the dates you'll be travelling. I believe major sports including Rugby and the Gaelic Games will still be in their summer break. Some events do take place around the country, but they are quite far from where you'll be staying. I'll still list them here in case your itinerary is flexible or you can include these on arrival or departure days perhaps, depending on where you'll be travelling from/to.

- Women’s Rugby: Ireland vs Wallaroos (Australia), 14th September, Kingspan Stadium Belfast, Northern Ireland
- Golf: Amgen Irish Open, 12th - 15th September, Royal County Down Golf Club, Newcastle, Northern Ireland
- Cricket: Matches on 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th September in Wicklow, Belfast and Clontarf (Dublin)
- Football: UEFA Nations League, Republic of Ireland vs Greece, 10th September, Aviva Stadium, Dublin

I'm sorry I don't have better news! Perhaps you could reach out to your hosts and ask whether they might know about any possible smaller local matches in the community.

Is there anything else on your bucket list for Sligo and Westport?

Best wishes,
Rebecca ☘️

Hi Judith,

Another idea would be to keep an eye on the fixture pages on both the Mayo GAA and Sligo GAA websites, where all upcoming matches in both Gaelic football and hurling in the counties will be posted.

Regards,
Eoin
