We have three villages in Galway that we wish to visit. They are Anthenry, Lackagh, and Kilconnel, Abbeyfield.  Are they accessible via bus or train?  Would hiring a guide/driver for the day be an option?

Thank you for your help.

Hi Lynne,

Will you be staying in Galway?

Visiting Lackagh and Kilconnell in Galway by public transport can be challenging due to limited services. Athenry is the most accessible, with regular buses and a train station on the Dublin-Galway line. For Lackragh, you would need to get the bus from Galway Cathedral and then a 20-minute taxi, depending on the specific area you wish to visit. Transport For Ireland has a journey planner tool that can help if you want to go this route.

Given the rural nature of Lackagh and Kilconnell, hiring a guide or driver for the day would be a convenient option. This would allow you to visit all three villages at your own pace without worrying about public transport schedules. Many companies in Galway offer private tours with drivers who can share local insights, making it a hassle-free way to explore the area. You can also have a look at this list of chauffeurs, which may assist.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I would be glad to help.
