Hello, I am looking for opportunites to spend 1 month abroad, early 2025, in the framework of engineering studies in France. Ireland is the first choice :-)
It can be any kind of activity. Important is the experience ! We were thinking for voluntary work in a youth hostel...
Any other idea ?
Many thanks for any hint !
Kind regards
Gabriel

Bonjour Gabriel,

It’s fantastic that you’re considering Ireland for volunteering experience!

As you said, a youth hostel is a great idea—platforms like Workaway or our accommodation/hostel search tool can help you find options. Were you set on an area in particular?

You could also explore eco-projects or farm work like WWOOF Ireland, this is something I've recommended in the past (even though I haven't done it myself) and you could end up in more rural areas than hostels, if that's what you fancy.

Let me know if I can help further or if you have other practical questions (travel, things to see in Ireland, you name it!)

A bientôt,
Antoine

Hey Gabriel,Have you thought about trying something hands-on like locksmith training while you’re in Ireland? I know it’s not the usual volunteering thing, but learning stuff like working with locks and safes is pretty cool and super practical.

If you’re looking for a cultural or community-focused experience, stuff like volunteering at a youth hostel or eco-projects like WWOOF Ireland is spot on. Learning locksmithing, though? That’s more of a skill-building thing than volunteering. That said, if you’re into picking up practical skills, it could still be worth looking into. I mean, learning how to work with locks or safes could even tie into your engineering background. Just a heads-up, though—stuff like certifications (like those from The Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) administer certification exams) are usually more formal and might not fit in with a quick one-month trip.
