Hello,
I am looking for recommendations about when and where to go to enjoy the authentic folk music with local people. Very original and relax experience with not many tourists. I would like to go with my parents.
Thank you

Hello Pam,

How nice that you are looking to experience Irish traditional music!

I would first suggest attending mid-week sessions, they are usually less busy than weekends. There are also plenty of small festivals that attract less crowds.

As for venues and pubs, here are 10 we can recommend all over the island. Are you planning to visit a specific region of Ireland? That would help us give you more intimate trad pubs recommendations. From experience, I can recommend the Crane Bar in Galway, Lowry's in Clifden and I've heard good things about Matt Molloy's in Westport (all pubs are along the Wild Atlantic Way). County Clare is also known for its trad music scene.

Here's some more information on Irish trad music to get to started. We also have previous threads discussing folk music that I'd encourage to check out for more ideas

Talk soon and please let us know about your plans,
Antoine
