My wife and I are planning to do a driving tour of Ireland this year. I drive a mobility car so therefore do not have a car tax disc. Would this be a problem please?

Hi Michael,

It is great to hear you are planning a driving tour of Ireland.

You shouldn’t have any issues driving without a car tax disc as long as your vehicle is properly registered and insured. However, since mobility tax exemptions vary between countries, it’s best to confirm if any Irish exemptions apply to your vehicle that is If you are trying to determine whether you're entitled to the same exemptions as Irish-registered mobility vehicles. I would recommend contacting the Irish Revenue Commissioners or the National Roads Authority to clarify your eligibility for tax and toll exemptions and other information.

To ensure a smooth trip, carry relevant documentation, including proof of tax exemption and insurance. Additionally, be prepared to pay tolls, as exemptions may not automatically apply to foreign-registered vehicles. If you have any doubts, reaching out to local authorities in advance can help avoid any issues on the road.

If you need more help planning, our accessibility, and 5 great Irish road trips pages are a great start.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I would be happy to help.
