Hello!
I will visit Ireland this summer and would like to visit Monasterboice.

The nearest bus stop is near Monasterboice Inn. From there I would have to walk to the attraction.
But it seems that there is no pedestrian walk to Monasterboice.

It seems the only thing I could do is walking along the country road, which seems quite dangerous.
Is there really no pedestrian walk or trail? Or do I have to buy a taxi? If so, are there taxi apps which you can recommend to me?

Thanks for your help!
Best regards,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

It is very nice to hear that you are planning a trip to Ireland this summer, and have some of the historic sites on your bucket list. You are right, Monasterboice is tucked away a little, and it can be a little detour to get there. (I couldn't find a direct option to get there by public transport either.)

However, in this article about Monasterboice, you can find the contact details for the Drogheda Tourist Office. They organise guided tours for the monastic site and might be able to point you in the right direction for the easiest way to get there without a (rental) car.

If you plan to travel around the island by public transportation, I would recommend the TFI Journey Planner to you. For anything that isn't accessible via public transportation, Free Now, Uber and Lyft (Dublin) are useful apps to have. You can find all links - and a few other handy app suggestions - in this article

Which other spots do you want to visit this summer? Do you have a little bit of time for your trip to do some exploring?

Have a nice day,
Sarah

Hi Sahra,

thank you for your detailed answer including the links!

Yes, I definetely have a lot of time for exploring.

I will stay in Ireland for 9 days. Belfast, Dublin, Giants Causeway and Newgrange are also on the bucket list!

I will have a hotel in Belfast. So I will take some days for exploring Belfast and some days for taking some trips :)

Best regards,
Sebastian

Hi again,

That sounds like a great itinerary, and you'll have plenty of time to explore. If you are still looking for some inspiration for your trip, I highly recommend checking out these suggestions for Dublin and Belfast

Please let us know how your trip went and which part of the island you enjoyed the most!

Warm regards,
Sarah
