I am a great fan of Guinness and Irish pubs. On my recent trip to Ireland I spent a fair bit of time in Irish pubs drinking Guinness. I like to seek out the smaller local pubs and it was a lot of fun. Spent many hours chatting with the locals. However, the subject of my Irish ancestry always came up. I don't have any but no-one believed me. So, I invented some. I told everyone that my grandparents came from Donegal. Never had any expressions of disbelief after that, a few looks of pity but no disbelief :) As a side note, a tour of the Pearse whisky distillery in Dublin is worth it.
