I would like to plan a trip with my mother next year, she is a very healthy gal in her mid 80s but cannot withstand lengthy walking. What would be a good destination, or trip. I do think she would enjoy cities/towns but definitely the beautiful country. Many thanks!

Hi Terri,

Welcome to our Community. 😊 That sounds like such a lovely plan!

With your mum’s energy but need to avoid long walks, I’d suggest choosing a base in towns where you can mix gentle exploring with short day trips. First of all, here are suggestions pages of charming towns along the Wild Atlantic Way, the Causeway Coastal route and Ireland's Ancient East. Do you already know how long you'll be on the island for and which area you'd like to explore?

Otherwise, cities and towns like Killarney (with its national park and the Ring of Kerry), Galway (lively but easy to get around, with lots of day tours to nearby Connemara or County Clare), Adare (County Limerick) could work really well for you and your mum.

Here are also some tips on accessibility on the Island you might find useful.

Let us know your thoughts!
Antoine

Hi Terri,

What a lovely idea to travel with your mother! For a trip that’s gentle on walking but still full of beautiful scenery and charming towns, we’ve been looking at Little Gem Tours and think they’d be a great fit. They do small, private tours, so you can go at your own pace and still see both well-known spots and some quieter, hidden gems.

We’re planning our first trip to Ireland ourselves, and one of the things we’re excited about is being able to enjoy scenic drives, little villages, and the coast without rushing.
