These dogs are allowed into Ireland, but must meet the following conditions: They must be kept on a strong leash no longer than 2 metres in length at all times, be muzzled in public areas and be under the control of a person over 16 years of age who is physically able to control the dog.

I understand that the dog must be muzzled in public areas : what is considered to be a public area:
- any place outside my van ?
- the camping ground ?
- a trail ?

I don't want to muzzle my dog all of the time, so this is for me a breaking point whether of not to visit Ireland again (with my previous shepherd I was there years ago, but back then this regulation was not yet applied. We had a wonderful time.

Thx in advance

Hello!

As a dog parent myself, I can absolutely relate to wanting our furry friends to be as free as possible. It's understandable that this regulation is a point of concern for you.

According to official guidelines, a public place is generally considered to be anywhere outside a private home or premises. This would include hiking trails and camping grounds. The regulations are designed keeping safety in mind.

I believe you can find some relevant information on the Citizens Information website.

Hope this helps with your planning, and I wish you and your lovely dog all the best! 🐶😊
