Okay,
I am an Aussie just starting to plan one final trip to Ireland/Northern Ireland for 4 months from 25th June 2026 to 31st October 2026.
I have previously been to Ireland 6 times in past 15 years, last one for 7 weeks solo road trip, so know the place reasonably well.
The big change this time is at 69 years of age I am an Ambulatory Electric Wheelchair user & will be bringing my wheelchair with me.
It's essentially suitable for off road travels & my Lithium Batteries allow me to travel around 80kms before they are empty & can recharge within 4 hours, so need access to suitable power overnight.

My last trip in 2017, I travelled 7,000 kms in a  rental car & also trekked 1200kms, will definitely miss this part of my previous experiences, although am hopeful I can still get lots of wheelchair travels in.
I have sourced all the information with regards Bus & Train Travel & getting around with my wheelchair in Ireland & this will be my main source of travelling.

What I am now after is the lower end in pricing for Accommodation, be it in Hostels, B&B's or even caravan parks.
I have the ability to get out of the wheelchair & walk indoors or climb single set of stairs.
So can  anyone give me recommendations, just names & locations so  I can make contact.
All major towns/cities are on my proposed  travel itinerary.
Thanks & look forward to responses.
Regards
Kevan

Hi Kevan,

What an inspiring post! A 4-month trip is a serious commitment, and it's wonderful that you're embracing a new kind of adventure this time around.

I found a few resources that might be a great starting point for your search. Platforms like B&B Ireland and Let's Go Self Catering both have filters on their sites specifically for wheelchair and accessible accommodation. I also came across this page on the Ireland official website, which looks like a great resource and includes other databases with hotels that accommodate special needs and wheelchairs.

Regarding pricing, it's usually best to check with the providers directly on their websites or by contacting them, as costs can change.

I hope these resources help you find some fantastic stays. Safe travels and enjoy every minute of that long adventure! 💚

Hello Kevan,

Your trip sounds like an incredible adventure – and what a brilliant way to revisit a place you clearly love. Thanks for sharing your plans in such detail. With your experience and adventurous spirit, I’ve no doubt you’ll still get a lot out of this next journey, even if it looks a little different from your earlier ones.

Focusing on Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coast and Glens area, there are a variety of budget-friendly and accessible places that might work for your setup with the power chair. Some are better equipped than others, and a few may require checking specific details like access to charging points or path surfaces. But all are located close to bus routes or key towns. Most of the Caravan Parks & Touring Sites (All have electric hook-up pitches and accessible toilet/shower blocks – but worth confirming details directly).

A full list of Caravan Parks and Touring Sites and indeed other accommodation options can be found here

I hope this gives you a few leads! If you need help contacting places or want more info about one of the towns, just shout — and do let us know how the planning progresses. Wishing you safe travels!

Warm regards,

Alison
