Hello,
I will be visiting the Wicklow area in October with my family; we are from the US and hoping to learn more about family heritage.  I am trying to find accommodations that are beyond the transactional hotel check in, check out experience.  I am also hoping to find more opportunities to connect with Irish people than just staying at someone's Air BnB home.

To explain what we are looking for, we visited The Bishops Lodge 2 years ago.  We dined with other visitors and spent the evenings conversing by the fireplace.  This sparked a love for peat burning fireplaces for us. It also allowed us to talk and learn about Ireland from Irish people, instead of just reading books or online guides.

We are essentially hoping to recreate this experience in a new part of Ireland.  Can anyone recommend bed and breakfasts in Wicklow County that may fit the bill?
Thanks very much for any guidance or advice!

Hi there,

Your previous stay sounds so lovely! I agree it makes such a difference if you have the chance to chat with your local hosts and other visitors - it adds many special memories to a holiday. 😊

Generally, Bed & Breakfast accommodation sounds like the best type for you. B&B Ireland is a great resource to find a cosy holiday home. The reviews should provide a good insight into the atmosphere of the accommodation and if previous visitors have experienced those lovely encounters you are seeking. You can also check out our accommodation finder here which I have set to display B&Bs in County Wicklow (scroll down). If you click on the individual results, you can find a link to the accommodation's website or contact information - you could reach out to them before your booking to inquire about your hopes and expectations.

I hope you'll find just what you're looking for! 🤞 It would be great to hear back about your experience and personal recommendations. 💚

Rebecca
