Trying to plan from Letterkenny to Derry on a Monday morning to arrive at the airport before 0715.  Is there any way to do this other than a taxi which would be prohibitive cost-wise?

Hi Kayden
That sounds like a great trip coming up!

Getting from Letterkenny to the City of Derry Airport early in the morning can be a bit of a puzzle, as the first direct bus usually leaves around 6:30 a.m. I'm afraid it would be too late for your flight.

However, I'd encourage you to get in touch with taxi companies in Derry-Londonderry and Letterkenny to see the prices they offer, as they can pick you up from either direction. On our website you'll find some tips and apps you could use for that purpose. You could also ask this Letterkenny Facebook group for hackney or taxis suggestions from locals.

I would also suggest spending the night before your flight in Derry-Londonderry if you can, then it’s just a short hop to the airport in the morning. Here's a handy accommodation search tool with some options.

Another option is to take an early cab to Foyle Street Bus Station in Derry-Londonderry, approximately 35 minutes from Letterkenny, and catch one of the regular Translink buses from there (for instance, bus 144 would arrive around 7 am at the airport). That way, you keep the taxi cost down and still have a reliable connection to your flight. You can check timetables on the Transport for Ireland website.

Last but not least, the airport website also has info on public transport routes and local taxi fares to reach the airport.

Either way, I hope it works out! Let us know if you need any more tips 😊

Cheers,
Antoine
