Hi! I'm trying to locate my grandfather's family. Here is his information:
Joseph Walsh, born May 1937 Cobh, County Cork, Ireland. Married to Catherine Murnane born December born December 9,1940 in Ireland. Both of them passed away in Long Beach California USA. My father is their son (unfortunately) Dennis. He told me at aged 15 he wants nothing to do with me. I'd very much like to find my family.

Hello Michelle,

I'm very sorry to hear about your father. I hope I can point you in the right direction and that you'll be able to find out more about your family.

In 1864, civil registration was introduced in Ireland. Since then, records of births, marriages, adoptions and deaths are kept at the General Register Office of Ireland (GRO). I recommend you reach out to their family research facility directly - relevant information can be found here. As detailed on this page, historic records are available online, but it appears that your grandfather's records would be too recent to fall under this category. The research facility should provide you with the necessary information on how you can access his records.

We've also gathered some general research tips and information in this article. Should you need further help, the National Archives and the National Library provide free genealogy advisory services you could reach out to.

Wishing you best of luck for your research! 💚
Rebecca
