I am trying to trace my father’s side of the family. He was called Bernard Michael Kenny. Born in Leeds, England. Dob 21/10/37Born in Leeds with 3 siblings (Maureen, Terence, Sheila) and brought up by Irish Grandmother we think. Father was Thomas Kenny (? Irish) and mother Mary Gilmore (? Born Leeds). Very poor and no ongoing family contact. Any help appreciated thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your first forays into your Irish Kenny family history with us here in the community. It is not always easy to travel back through time, but I hope I can be of help in tracing the roots of your family.

First of all, on this genealogy page on our website, we have gathered several genealogy research resources. From historical archives to contemporary registers, this is a good start for genealogical research on the island of Ireland.

If you are on Facebook, our Ireland Family History page is another online space where you can connect with a community of people who are researching their Irish ancestry. And of course right here on our Community pages, for instance this helpful guide on how to get started with genealogical research in Ireland.

One more interesting resource is this website, which focuses on the distribution of family names across the island of Ireland. It might offer some clues regarding the origins and distribution of the Kenny family name, as well as variant spellings!

I hope that these are some helpful additions to your research tools and that you can retrace your family's roots in Ireland. Please feel welcome to keep me updated on your research!

Wishing you the best of luck,

Vera
