Hi France,
It’s wonderful that you’re researching your family ancestry. There are a few things to keep in mind when searching through Irish records and archives.
Before 1864, records were kept as church and parish records, and all surviving records have been organised into county-based genealogical centres.
Then, in 1864, civil registration was introduced in Ireland, which is when formal records of births, marriages, adoptions, and deaths began, and these are now held at the General Register Office of Ireland (GRO).
For County Monaghan specifically, you might find the
Monaghan genealogy website a useful place to start your search. It can provide access to records and resources that may help you trace Patrick Moore, Elizabeth Spencer, and their family.
Hopefully, this gives you a solid starting point for exploring your ancestry.
Regards,
Eoin
