Hi - I'm planning an extended family trip to Ireland from the US for the first half of August 2026. Will be in Dublin, Waterford, Cork, and Galway. I would love to attend a live sporting event (Camogie, Hurling, Football, etc) but am currently unable to find anything scheduled during that time. Can anyone help?

Hi Sarah!

What a fantastic trip you’re putting together!  August is a brilliant time to be here, and those cities give you such a good mix of Ireland’s personality.

About the sports side of things, you’re not doing anything wrong, the GAA doesn’t release detailed fixtures this far out, so it’s totally normal that you’re not finding August 2026 schedules yet. Hurling, camogie, and Gaelic football all run through the summer, and early August usually lands right in the middle of the All‑Ireland season, so chances are good that something will line up with your dates once the calendar is published. In the meantime, the Ireland.com website has some really good sports information from the island of Ireland.

Local club matches are easy to catch and incredibly fun too, you’ll find them in every county you’re visiting, and they’re very welcoming to visitors. The Dublin Horse Show usually happens in early August and is a huge annual event if you’re open to something a bit different. And if rugby is on your radar at all, Dublin is a brilliant city for it, even outside the main season. Stadium tours, rugby pubs, and the whole match‑day culture are great fun.

You  can look into a nice guide to planning a rugby‑themed weekend if you want to get a feel for it.

Either way, you’ll have plenty of great sporting options once the 2026 schedules start to take shape and your trip starts to line up. I look forward to hearing more of your planning.

Best,

Vivian
