Major Changes for your Irish Holidays! Planning a trip to Ireland soon? Take note: a new law concerning short-term rentals (Airbnb, Booking.com) is currently making its way through the Irish Parliament.

Key Date: May 20th, 2026

What’s happening? Starting May 20th, private hosts will likely be required to have specific planning permission or a registration permit to list their properties. Right now, there’s a lot of "artistic blur" around the details, and it’s causing a bit of a panic among hosts.

How does this affect YOU? Less Choice: Many hosts are already closing their calendars or stopping short-term rentals altogether. Price Hikes: Fewer available homes + new permit fees = higher prices for both Airbnbs and hotels. My advice as an Airbnb host (9 years & counting!): I usually love a good last-minute booking, but this year, don't risk it. Book BEFORE May 20th: Any reservation made before this date isn't impacted by the new regulations.

Plan Ahead: Don’t wait until the last second; the supply is shrinking fast.

Play it Safe: Look for listings with free cancellation to keep your peace of mind. The local news is all over this (check out the Irish Examiner for the deep dive). Please be kind to your hosts—we’re just as confused as you are!  Enjoy your trip to our beautiful island and happy exploring!
