Hi, I am planning a trip round Ireland in a couple of weeks time in a motorhome but I am struggling to find any campsites. I can find quite a few one night stop overs but I also want places to stay for a few nights. For example Athlone looks like an interesting area but there seems to be only 2 campsites, both a fair distance out of the town, and one does open until April. Where should I be looking as I think I might be using the wrong search phrases. Thanks

Hi Karen,
It's lovely to hear that you are planning a tour of the island of Ireland in your motorhome!

There is an accommodation search page on our website that you may wish to try. Just scroll down to the Where do you want to stay section and use the filters to refine your search. I have pre-selected Caravan & Camping to get you started. Just add a location to further refine your search. There are indeed just two campsites in County Westmeath, with the main seasons kicking off around Easter time.
Camping Ireland also has a great website to search for places to stay. They have a search option for Motorhomes, which should list all those that are able to take your vehicle.

There is also trip ideas page listing plenty of options for places to visit, and an article on campervan holidays for some lovely suggestions too. Athlone is a lovely place to visit and part of Ireland's Hidden Heartlands.

Will it be the first time over with us?

We stayed at Clifden EcoBeach campsite when we visited last summer - really stunning location with a private beach area and loads of pitches right on the water, including campervan pitches. Highly recommend!

Only negative was that it was super windy the night we stayed, but that's pretty common with the West Coast!

Hi Ed, thanks for adding your experience here of staying at Clifden Eco Beach. 🏖️🏕️

It sounds like you enjoyed the experience, even the west coast wind, although not quite as much as the views!
