Car Rental for over 75s

My husband and I want to rent a car when we come to Northern Ireland.  We are both 77 and have full UK driving licences with no endorsements.  We understand some rental companies may have age restrictions or special requirements for our age group.  We are not finding it easy to determine on car rental websites what these may be.  Can you please give us help as to who may accept our age group and /or advise what special requirements there may be?  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for posting about coming over to Northern Ireland for a visit! We have some information on our website about renting a car, and as you say, there are some additional requirements for people over the age of 75. 🚗These can be a letter from your insurance company to confirm that you have an up-to-date insurance policy and have not had any accident in the past 5 years,  a letter from your doctor confirming that you are in good health and fit to drive, and confirmation that you drive on a regular basis. It is important that you check with the individual rental companies for their specific requirements ahead of time to avoid any issues. For example, Avis NI has a terms and conditions page that may be worth a look at.

As it sounds like you are flying into Northern Ireland, many of the airlines have associated car rental partners that offer discounts when booking. Again, you would need to read their terms and conditions when trying to book. If you intend to travel into the Republic of Ireland, you would also need to let the car rental company know for insurance purposes. ☘️
