Hi everyone,
I’m planning a trip around Ireland and one thing I always enjoy when travelling is trying different foods along the way.
I’d love to hear from people who have travelled around Ireland about the food experiences they enjoyed the most. Apart from the well-known Irish dishes, are there any local meals, snacks, cafés, bakeries or restaurants that you would recommend trying?

I’m also interested in how other travelers manage food while moving between different destinations. For example, when doing a road trip, is it better to plan meals in advance or simply stop at local places along the route?

What are:
Traditional Irish foods worth trying
Good local cafés and bakeries
Food to try in Dublin, Galway, Cork or smaller towns
Vegetarian or family-friendly options
Any memorable food experiences from an Ireland road trip

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Hi Runza,

It's great to hear that you will be over with us on a road trip and looking for recommendations on food! 🚗

There are so many different places to eat all over the island of Ireland, from Michelin Star restaurants, pubs and bars to cafes and local restaurants. 🍽️While most locations will serve traditional Irish dishes, there will be local specialties to try as well, often found on food tours.

Most journeys on the island of Ireland would be fairly short, a couple of hours or so. Finding places to stop and buy food is easy to do with delis at most fuel stations and shops in towns and villages ready with hot and cold options. One of the most famous options would be the Chicken fillet roll!  Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free food is also fairly easy to find, as most food outlets have food safety information on hand so you know what you are buying. So stop often, try what's available and immerse yourself in the local options.

I am sure there will be more suggestions from our members on experiences they have and recommendations on things to try! 😋
