Question from Andrea Leninger:
I'm looking for information on Michael Henry. Born approximately September 29th 1840 in athlone Ireland. Father is Thomas Henry mother is Mary Pendergast Henry. I've searched some of the parish records and found a baptism record for a Michael Henry whose father is listed as Thomas and mother is listed as Mary Pendergast. Unfortunately the date doesn't match it's listed as being nine years later in 1849. I also found a marriage record for a Thomas Henry and Mary Pendergast at st. Peter's of athlone County Roscommon in 1828. Neither Thomas or Mary's parents are listed. How do I know if this is the right Thomas and Mary? And how do I find out more about them? Thank you.
Answer from Irish Family History Centre:
In the 19th century and early 20th century, people were not sure exactly when they were born so it's possible you have the right record. Have you found any other baptisms for this couple who married in 1828? Also look up Griffith's Valuation which is on FindMyPast and Ask About Ireland. A lot of marriage records for that period do not list parents. You could also look up the Tithe Applotments which are on FamilySearch and the National Archives of Ireland genealogy website.
