Ireland’s cities have a certain charm about them – they’re urban playgrounds that reward explorers. So if you’re coming here for Valentine’s Day, what are some things you can get up to, to make this romantic day special?
In Dublin, we’d recommend starting out with a few drinks at the IdleWild bar – this little gem is tucked back off the street, and provides an intimate space to chat and relax. Next, head to dinner – you’re spoiled for choice in Dublin. Delicious dinner in bookshop-restaurant hybrid The Winding Stair, authentic Hong Kong street food in trendy Hang Dai or Irish classics with a modern twist in The Pig’s Ear – take your pick! Finish up gazing out over the sparkling lights of the city at Howth Summit, or get stuck in to Dublin’s buzzing nightlife in Temple Bar, dancing to jigs and reels alongside a traditional music band.
In Belfast, visit Cave Hill Country Park for a brisk morning walk, enjoying the luxurious surroundings at Belfast Castle, where you can gaze over the city far below. Grab lunch at the Mourne Seafood Bar, where fresh, locally-sourced fish will make your tastebuds tingle in delight. Finish up the night at Crown Liquor Saloon – a splendid Victorian interior and cosy cubbies make this an absolute must for a rousing romance in this bubbling city.
In Cork, we recommend you start early – stride towards the top of Patrick’s Hill before sunrise, and watch the sun come up over the city. Spend your day cuddling up together in Ó Conaill Chocolate shop over a scrumptious hot chocolate and cake. Give your evening a 1970s twist – if you have a car with you, drive up to the Movie Junction drive-in cinema and catch a blockbuster movie! Finally, finish up your evening with a romantic dinner at the Café Paradiso, a cornucopia of vegetarian delights. Yum!
