Getting to Dublin is a simple task – a trip on a plane or ferry is usually all it takes to reach this fair city from afar. But once you set down, what's the best way to navigate around?
If you're an intrepid explorer who likes to take in the city up close, then rent a
Dublinbike and pedal around on two wheels. If you're planning on taking in the major sights in the city centre, this is a really effective way of doing it. Stop at a station, rent a bike, and set it down again when you're done. Just remember to obey the rules of the road, and wear a helmet for safety.
If you like to take things at a more sedate pace, hop on a Dublin Bus. Routes extend out from the city centre, and serve most of Dublin's outlying areas. Plan your route, and grab a ticket that
suits your needs – there are plenty of choices to suit your needs.
The
Luas is a light rail system that serves stops throughout the city centre and the suburbs to the north and south, whilst the
DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport) serves stops from Greystones in the south to Howth in the north, and features stunning scenic views from the train window that look out over the pristine waters of Dublin Bay.
Finally, if you want to explore the island further,
Bus Eireann and
Irish Rail offer intercity services with plenty of smaller stops along the way. Busáras is the main bus terminal, while trains travelling to different parts of the island leave from Dublin’s three major rail hubs – Connolly, Pearse and Heuston. Once you know where you're going, you can choose which route and means of transport works the best for you to get there.
So remember – plan your route, pick your mode of transport and most importantly, go and enjoy it!
