Question Received by Mary via E-Mail
My husband and I visited Ireland this past month. We stayed in the town my grandfather, James Mahoney, was raised, Reenmore, Ahakista, Sheep's Head Peninsula, Cork.
We made a trip to the Cobh Heritage Centre to see the Queenstown Story. I am wondering if there are any emigration records for people who headed to NY in the early to mid 1920s. We were thrilled to get a baptismal record from St. Patrick's (Rusnachara), in Ahakista, since the government had no record of his birth. The parish priest was so kind and let us look over the books to see the April 14, 1895 entry.

People at the Dublin Valuation Office, Life Centre, were also very helpful and we were able to locate Mahoney property records. Unfortunately, we have had no luck with the emigration from the Ellis Island, NY side. The last name is so common and we don't have a year or the ship's identification. Your suggestions or referrals are most welcome.

Thanks, so much. We plan to visit again and take our teenagers!
Mary
