Halloween is always a big event in Ireland. And where is the best place to celebrate it? In Derry!

I love the pictures of Halloween in Derry-Londonderry, Francesco! Definitely checking it out next year. :)
My boyfriend and his son went trick or treating in Belfast, and they had too much candy to carry!

Great photos Francesco and Melin :)
Us Irish have a genuine affinity with this season...  another of our "claims to fame" is that we did, in fairness, invent the festival ;)  Have a read of our blog for some more insights and check out this creepy ancient "turnip" mask which is a forefather of the Jack-o-lantern!

I am coming to visit for the first time during Halloween week/weekend.  I have been looking for adult costume parties and things to do other than the tours.  Do adults dress up and attend contests at any local venues?  I can't seem to find anything of that sort.

Ha L.W.,

Leuk dat je ons gevonden hebt!

Everyone gets dressed up for Halloween in Derry! And if you don't have a costume of your own, you can even rent one in the run up to the celebrations.

There are many different activities and they do indeed vary from the parades and festivals to parties and events. You can find a lot of information about what's on during Halloween on the spooky page.

Another great place to keep an eye on is the Derry Halloween website, where the latest up-to-date information will be posted once it's available and where you can find a programme of many great activities.

Are you planning to come over for just the Halloween celebrations or will you be adding a bit of sightseeing time as well?

Warme groet,
Cornelia

There's a new festival called Púca taking place in Co Meath, outside Dublin. It will be amazing! More details available in a couple of weeks but it sounds like you'd love it! A full programme of events take place around Trim and Athboy, Co. Meath and Drogheda, Co. Louth from 31st October to 2nd November 2019.
