We do have our fair share of quirky events in Ireland, including medieval banquets in ancient castles. And as someone who’s been there, done that and experienced the belly laughs that go with it – it’s definitely lots and lots of fun!
Plus, how many people can say that they’ve been to a medieval banquet?
Medieval banquets may have grown in popularity thanks to the
Game of Thrones©️ phenomena. Northern Ireland was a prominent filming destination, and places such as
Castle Ward in County Down doubled as the set for the infamous Winterfell! Now fans of the show can tour key locations and experience a Game of Thrones©️ banquet! Get ready to try on costumes, eat like a king, and fight like Jon Snow.
If you want a more Irish experience, there’s still plenty to choose from across the island! You can visit
Bunratty Castle or
Knappogue Castle in County Clare. Here, you can indulge in a four-course meal in a traditional Irish castle built in the 15th century, and be serenaded with medieval songs and reenactments of historical events as you dine.
If you find yourself in Galway, you can visit
Dunguaire Castle where you can nibble on fine foods while listening to the works of fine Irish writers and poets such as Yeats and Synge, to name but a few. To top it all off, there’s also a medieval experience in
Barberstown Castle in County Kildare, which was until very recently owned by Eric Clapton!
