Of the many memorable experiences available in Ireland, one of the most striking is our range of beautiful coastal walks. Some of island’s best and most bracing walks can be found along the untamed stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way. Whether you’re looking for a casual stroll or an invigorating extended hike, you’ll find both here.

The Inishowen Head Loop in County Donegal is a walk that’s imbued with historical relevance, as well as gorgeous scenery. Along the trail you’ll discover the spot where St Columba stood before journeying to the Scottish isle of Iona. Continue along the Inishowen peninsula to Malin Head, where you can find historical curiosities like World War II lookout posts or, if you’re lucky, the beautiful Northern Lights illuminating the night sky.

For a more challenging adventure, why not try the Sliabh Liag Pilgrim Path, which will take you to the highest point of the of the Slieve League cliff paths. Be mindful, you’ll need a strong stomach for heights and the necessary hiking equipment.

Rosses Point in County Sligo has a coastal walk that takes in a view of the distinctive flat-top mountain Ben Bulben, the striking ‘Lady on the Shore’ sculpture, as well as a range of pubs and restaurants for the more relaxed adventurer.

In Ireland’s Ancient East, the coastal walk from Bray to Greystones in County Wicklow gives a striking view of the Irish Sea. Despite its elevated position, it’s a relatively easy walk, that leaves you in the idyllic town of Greystones with great restaurants, pubs and golf courses available.

Finally, head to Northern Ireland and the breathtaking Causeway Coastal Route. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, the walk between Mussenden Temple and Downhill Demesne in County Londonderry is ideal. Alongside gorgeous seaside views, is the location for Dragonstone, seat of the dour Stannis Baratheon in the hit HBO series.

Can anyone in our Community recommend a memorable another coastal walk on the island of Ireland?
