As anyone who has visited Ireland knows, the weather is never a guarantee, and could change at a moment’s notice – we often say we get all four seasons in a day! So what should you pack when you visit?

1. Fit out your feet
Start with the essentials – this little island is perfect to explore on foot, so bring comfy shoes with you for walking. If you’re planning on stepping off the beaten track, make sure to pack hiking boots too – the terrain can get rocky!

2. Layer up
Ireland has a saying: There is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing. Therefore, layers are essential in Ireland – make sure you keep a sweater with you to stay warm in spring and winter. And even if the weather looks sunny and bright, bring a raincoat – you don’t want to get caught in a downpour! An umbrella is a good idea as well, and easily packed in your bag.

3. Sun safety
If you’re planning to visit during the summer months, make sure to grab some sunscreen – while Ireland isn’t as hot as some places, the sun can still easily burn if you’re not careful.

4. Don’t forget
And finally, don’t forget the essentials – a plug adaptor if you need it; the two currencies used on the island of Ireland(sterling is used in Northern Ireland, and euro elsewhere); and a camera, so you can record all of the memories you’ll make while you’re here! More information can be found on our ultimate travel checklist

Packing a suitcase when coming to Ireland is a little more complex than packing a suitcase for a sunny holiday to Spain😅
No matter what time of the year you visit Ireland, the weather loves to mess with our heads and is constantly changing. It would be a great idea to consider what to pack when coming to the Emerald Isle 💚

Your Ireland trip will run smoother if you pack these essentials 👇🏼

Footwear 🥾:
Comfortable trainers/sneakers are perfect for when casually walking through the towns and villages. However If you are on the adventurous side and up for exploring off the beaten track, lightweight hiking boots are key. They are usually waterproof or water-resistant, offer improved grip over steep and/or lose terrain, and they support your ankles on uneven ground and when descending.

Phone📱:
We highly recommend you bring a WiFi-enabled mobile phone with you to Ireland .All of our hotels have free internet access so you can keep in touch with loved ones at home. A phone will also come in very handy if you are delayed or need to contact a local number while you are here, for any reason.

Clothing 👕👚:
One of the things that makes Ireland so much fun is the exciting climate. Sun. Wind. Rain shower. It is always hard to predict what is around the corner. We suggest flexible and lightweight layers that will allow you to quickly adapt to unexpected changes in the weather or temperature.

We have a full guide on what to pack when coming to Ireland so feel free to check it out for more information👇🏼
